DCMD Contest: Give Them What They Want!!!

This Canadian Snowflake has flown south and melting away on the beaches of Florida!  A fully functioning studio will still be a few months away, so in the mean time I'll be flooding the sketchbook with new designs and ideas.  Here is where the competition begins!

Give Them What They Want!!:  If you could add a piece of jewellery to the DCMD Collection what the theme be?!  The winner will not only receive a jewellery prize, but also see their winning submission fully realized as a wearable piece of jewellery - and have it named after them!  Here are the competition rules:

  • What inspires you?  Tell me your story or idea.  Are you inspired by a motif, a colour, a story, a literary work, a song, a concept?  Do tell!!!  Be as descriptive or simple as you like.
  • Post your comment to this Blog!  Only comments posted to the Blog will be accepted.
  • Only 1 entry per person please.

Timeline:  Probably a couple of weeks or so.  :)  A more solid date will be posted when the deadline gets close.

My inspiration in life are the children.
My children, my grandchildren and all children.
For their beauty and their joy in life.
Through their eyes all things are wonderful.
Their minds are like little sponges that absorb all knowlege and gives it back with a new wonder and understanding.
For their endless energy.
Ok Devon make me a piece that represents the child in all of us.

I'm inspired by the 20s. It was such a carefree time (or at least looks that way in hindsight) and seems to be a haze of dancing, illegal liquor, glamour, and sparkling things. The 20s is the epitome of the high life, where everyone who was anyone was a socialite. People partied, drove shiny new cars, wore expensive clothing based on Parisian designs, ate out, and lived in sprawling Art Deco mansions. I also love what the 20s produced. One of my favourite books is 'The Great Gatsby', some of my favourite art is drawn by Erte, and I would be willing to kill for an authentic, restored Art Deco house. However, if I were to pick one thing that demonstrates why I love the 20s (and that is a very difficult task), it would be the Life magazine cover linked below. The combination of the colours, the fashion, the woman's pose and face, and the style of illustration is unique, breath-taking, and worthy of envy.
